Rust in Peace?
Brief update on Samson for anyone who thinks he is as handsome as I do. The new starter arrived. Made in India. Must be a big market for old tractors in India. Checked the photo on my phone to reconnect. Yes, he turned over and... roar.
Some celebration was in place and rightly chuffed with my incredible repair skills. But wait, after dragging some logs out of drying burn piles where once blackberry thickets ruled, Samson took a long exhale, and stopped. 'Died' may be a better way of putting it.
Didn't expect that did you? Not the happy ending any of us were hoping for. More like a European art movie than Hollywood. Failure? Possibly. Only if there are no lessons to be learned here. Let me see: I now know the battery connects to the starter relay and the starter relay connects to the starter. That's it? I could go into the next black round thingy or even open the engine casing. But do I want to? Right now I am sitting with a resounding NO. My best uneducated guess is that the engine innards themselves are calling for help.
Where to from here Samson, Yard Art or do I call in The Don? After 76 years of service, have you chosen me to provide your final rusting place 'cause that is how it feels right now.
Let's take a few days apart and talk about it say, next weekend?
