Bring out your full moon!
If you have ever been unemployed, retired, solo business owner or in love, you will know how challenging it is to create a useful routine. With my coaching business and other goings on, ritual and schedule create my rhythm and become the scaffolding of my life. Morning gratitude’s at 6.30, wake kids at 6.40, gym at 7.30, coffee, shower and breakfast at 8.30. First client slot at 10. And so on. I set those systems up so as not to have to decide each moment what to do with my time. It is simple and requires no new decisions. And it’s efficient.
Admittedly, for much of my life I sat on my high perch of spontaneity and pretended to be different but with my ego more in check these days, I think, the routines and rituals of life are comforting and meaningful.
Except, that is, during holidays, when I am totally lost.
Take today for instance. Work on hold till next week, kids away with mum and partner, ice on roads so skipping the gym. So many decisions suddenly ahead. Get up or sleep in, coffee or tea, journal or meditate, shower or bath, read “Slow Sex” or listen to a Joseph Campbell's podcast, eggs or cereal or both, with or without cheese.
It is overwhelming.
First easy choice is podcast, in bed. Can be done under the warm duvet. The great mythologist Joseph Campbell.
And he just let me know that while ‘Marx teaches us to blame the society for our frailties, Freud teaches us to blame our parents, astrology teaches us to blame the universe.… the only place to look for blame is (in the mirror) if you don’t have the guts to bring out your full moon and live the life that was your potential.”
Alright, I am up!
